Turtle Glass
Development along the Florida coastline requires a special consideration for the safety of indigenous marine turtle hatchlings when designing and constructing a building. It has been discovered that light shining brightly from buildings within line of site of the seashore steers marine turtle hatchlings away from their natural environment at sea.

Due to this phenomena, the Florida Model Lighting Ordinance for Marine Turtle Protection requires architectural glass to transmit no more than 45% of interior light from inside coastal buildings located adjacent to marine turtle nesting areas.

When designing a building for a coastline area, you must consider the required solar performance of the glass, the required Hurricane Impact requirements and the Turtle Protection requirements.

Please contact your Texas Tempered Glass Sales Manager at 713/697-2828 for information on how to blend these three building codes to meet this environmental need.
